ASIH 1997 Joint Meetings
ASIH Equal Participation Committee Mentoring Program

Following on last year's success, the ASIH Equal Participation Committee is again sponsoring a mentoring program designed specifically for students new to the society(ies), or for those attending alone, to meet established researchers in their field. A goal of the committee is to increase and support the role of women in the society through discussions and programs that involve all interested members of ASIH. Mentors and students will meet over breakfast in the UW Residence Hall cafeteria on Friday morning, June 27, 7:30-8:15, prior to the Plenary Session. A luncheon and panel discussion at Seattle's famous Ivar's Salmon House, generously subsidized by the University of Washington Graduate School and the School of Fisheries, will take place on Sunday, June 29th.
This year's discussion topic is: "Family Issues: stopping the tenure clock temporarily after the birth of a child, tenure-track contract policies on maternity leave, options if a child is due mid-semester, on-campus day-care or day-care referral services, contractual rights if recovery time after delivery is prolonged, etc."
Students interested in participating and senior members willing to serve as mentors are encouraged to contact Carol A. Britson, Department of Biology, University of Memphis, Memphis, TN 38152, britsonc@cc.memphis.edu.
